Adolescent Sex Offender Treatment
David’s Loft Clinical Programs in partnership with In the Newness of Life provides adolescent sex offender treatment. The model incorporates restorative justice themes to include restitution, development of victim empathy, and personal responsibility. Treatment includes individual therapy utilizing the Good Lives Model (GLM) of rehabilitation.
GLM is based in positive psychological theory. This strength-based approach seeks to build skill capacity in individuals in an effort to reduce the risk of re-offending. The focus of treatment is to assist individuals to select, formulate, and construct plans to achieve their chosen outcomes. GLM is implemented through the application of structured activities as outlined in theory based curriculum.
GLM is a promising practice for adolescent sex offender behavior and is beginning to be used in correctional facilities and in case management as well. Researchers (Barnett, Mandervill-Norden, & Rakestrow, 2014; Wiley & Griffin, 2013) have found the application of GLM positively impacts the constructs that are essential in desistance and relapse prevention.
